OBIT: The Daily Journal, Ogensburg, 17 August 1877.
DIED - FLACK. In Lisbon, July 27th, 1877, James Flack, aged 89 years.
FLACK. In Lisbon, May 5th, 1874, Polly Flack, wife of James Flack, aged 88 years.
Mr and Mrs Flack were born in Washington County, New York. They were married quite young in age, and like all other young people, with bright hopes, commenced to look out for themselves a home where they might settle down and enjoy life and thus be permitted to to carry out and fulfill that solemn engagement and vow that they took upon themselves at the marriage altar. In search of a home their steps were turned in the direction of St Lawrence County, and came to Lisbon in the spring of 1809, and thus remained as residents of said town 40 years. In the month of October 1853 they moved to the state of Wisconsin, where they remained 12 years.
And as old age was fast coming on they thought of the home of their younger days, and having an anxious desire to spend the remainder of their days at the old home with dear friends and children they loved, they came home to Lisbon in the year 1865, where they were welcomed by their children and friends. In the year 1872, Mr Flack made a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thus lived a faithful servant of the Lord and died in full triumphs of faith and the religion which he professed.
He was a great sufferer in his last sickness, but he endured it with great fortitude and patience, and often said, the Lords will be done.
As thy days so shall thy strength be. - Deut. 33rd Chapter, 25th verse.
Mrs Flack professed faith in the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ, and united with the First Congregational Church of Lisbon, in the year 1864, and thus lived a consistent and faithful member of it until she was removed to the Church Triumphant. In my short acquaintance with her she was always cheerful and happy, always looking on the bright side of life. The greatest anxiety of her heart was for the spiritual welfare of those around her. She was often heard to pray for those who were out of Christ, and the writer of these lines has been asked more than once to join her in prayer for her friends and especially her children.
Oh the value of a mothers prayer.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me write. Blessed are the Dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labour; and their works do follow them - Rev 14th,-13th.
At the time of their death they were both living with their son, Garret P Flack, when all was done that was in their power to smooth the path down to the grave.
