Notes - On June 5, 1873 Daniel filed a Declaratory Statement of his intent to
homestead property in Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota. On January
12, 1881 he made his final payment of $7.72. A Homestead Patent was
issued to Daniel by President Chester A Arthur on October 18, 1886.
Daniel sold his farm on June 26, 1888. He had already moved to Dassel,
Minnesota where he was operating a textile mill.
In September 1885 Daniel propossed opening a woolen mill in the
city of Litchfield. Articles of Incorporation were drawn up with
Daniel as a Board member and manager of the mill. By April 1886 the
mill was up and operating. In June, Daniel ended his association with
the mill and moved to California. In August 1888, the Litchfield
Woolen Mill was totally destroyed by fire.
Because of a hearing problem, Daniel did not serve in the Civil War.
