"Marilyn - This is another angle I have been working on...
In July 1825, John A. Flack, Absalom Callison and wife, Anna, and John Kincaid sold land in Harlan Co., Kentucky. They were all listed as being of the "Commonwealth of Kentucky". I think this might have been land that Ann Flack and John, her brother, inherited because of Benjamin Flack's death. I just don't know who John Kincaid was. Perhaps he was a friend. Perhaps he was related to the Callisons and/or the Flacks. The names of witnesses were: James FARMER, Benjamin HARRIS and Aley LEDFORD on one deed and James FARMER, Pascal HAMBLIN and Solomon BURKHART on the other.
I am trying to see if any of these names fit into my Callison line (or anyone's Callison line, for that matter). I had an email recently that on these older deeds, the first witness represented the husband's family and the subsequent witness represented the wife's family or her interest. I am assuming that Absalom signed this deed only because he was married to Ann - in other words, that it was Flack land. The land was originally patented to John Latham in 1791. If it was land that Absalom had purchased, I do not think she would have had to sign. John Flack's wife did not, and he was married at the time. If anyone has an idea on this, I welcome suggestions.
If any of those witness names or John Latham's name sound familiar, let me know.
